Today the Stoke Canon Scallywags, led by movement artist Lizzie Swinford, explored the story of the Elves and the Shoemaker. There was the opportunity to have a go at being a cobbler by sewing shoe soles and the children could make and decorate their own shoe using templates.
They played with and tried on a vast array of different shoes: boots, slippers, sandals, climbing shoes, tap dancing shoes, smart shoes, casual shoes and party shoes.
Flour was sieved onto a large mat and the children had a go at making footprints and copying each other’s movements: stomping, walking, tiptoeing.
We gathered in a circle and the story of the elves and the shoemaker was told with the children encouraged to add in movements for sewing and stitching. It was then outside to carry on the theme with some welly wanging!
