Hire Us

“The money spent in hiring Carousel’s services can be justified as practical, hands on training for the staff, as well as playful learning opportunities which cater for the individual developmental needs of the children at the setting” Tracy Pitman, Manager, Silverton Preschool Playgroup

As well as offering creative sessions in the community, you can hire us to work within a nursery or early years setting, community event or for a private event. We work with experienced, Devon-based, community artists with a wealth of talent and experience working with young children and their families and running participatory workshops. If you want a quality, creative workshop in your early years setting or are organising a party, function, festival or event and are looking for children’s creative activities, we can offer something special, fun and unique.

We have developed a strong portfolio of working creatively with early years children and their families both within Children’s Centres and at stand-alone sessions. Our artists and educators have built up experience working with this age group and have developed methods of working to engage children and to encourage participation from both parent and child. We can develop a theme you are currently working on or come up with a concept to inspire and engage children.

Most recently, Carousel artists Lizzie Swinford and Tamsin Pender visited Silverton Preschool Playgroup.  As the children were exploring themes around ‘summer’ and ‘the beach’, the popular story, ‘The Snail and the Whale’ was suggested by the artists at Carousel as the foundation for their activities.

Recreating the story together using movement, art and play,  the children laid and followed snail trails inside and whale trails across the garden, making snails to take on their journeys with them.  We used fabric, props and chalk to form the places in the book and together we traveled across oceans in the garden, explored a dark coral cave lit with luminous and sparkly shapes, slid across the icy wastes and escaped from an exploding volcano, giving the children space for imaginative, creative and physical play throughout.  The session was hugely successful and you can read a review by Tracy Pitman, Manager of the Silverton Preschool Playgroup here.

“Staff spoke enthusiastically of great new ideas they had for future activities, including their insistence that I obtain the recipe for the snail slime used. The one criticism staff had was that the event didn’t go on long enough, as the children were so engaged with each activity they needed more time to explore it fully.” Tracy Pitman, Manager, Silverton Preschool Playgroup

We have been hired by local schools for activities with Years 1 & 2 for National Literacy Week events (see Where the Wild Things Are and Silverton Wild Rumpus). We also created activities aimed at early years children for the Exeter Olympic Torch ceremony and Exeter’s Unexpected Festivals 2014 and 2014 and Exetreme Imagination Festival 2014.

If you would like the Carousel team to visit your Pre-School, Foundation, Reception or Key Stage One class, please e-mail katherine@thecarouselproject.org.uk to find out more.  We work closely with E.Y practitioners to offer bespoke, tailor-make sessions around any theme, so why not book us for World Book Day 2015 (5th March 2015)
